The U.S. Department of Education, Office of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Office of Safe and Supportive Schools, the Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) Technical Assistance (TA) Center, and the National Center on Safe Supportive Learning Environments (NCSSLE) invite you to join our next webinar: School Safety Starts with Prevention.
Implementing evidence-based school-based preventative solutions is an essential component in addressing gun violence in school communities and keeping students safe. This webinar focused on prevention and is the first session in the Preventing and Addressing School Violence including Gun Violence Miniseries. We began with an overview of prevention strategies, focusing on the importance of building a positive school climate, collaboratively developing high-quality Emergency Operation Plans, using threat assessments as a prevention tool, and safe firearms storage. Then, panelists shared effective gun violence prevention strategies and tools they have implemented in their school communities and other considerations to support student safety.
