Fostering college success: An invisible student population faces big obstacles

More than 23,000 people age out of the foster care system every year. Many are often disappointed to find that higher education, like the foster care system, works against them at nearly every turn. Institutions and nonprofits are scaling support systems, but student advocates say more is required from states and the federal government.
