Local universities continue to look at how to improve safety following a shooting at UNLV last year when a gunman killed three professors and wounded another. In response to the deadly shooting, Nevada System of Higher Education chancellor Patricia Charlton created the ad hoc Committee on Public Safety. Earlier this year, the committee secured $2.6 million to bolster security measures across Southern Nevada public college campuses. That includes security, referred to as "yellow jackets," who you find on campuses like UNLV.
