To offer support to its first-generation students, Rockford University hosts a summer retreat for some of its incoming freshmen. First-generation students are, by definition, the first people in their family to work toward a bachelor’s degree at a higher-education institution. Rockford University’s Regents First Summer 2024 Retreat has the first-generation freshmen take part in a residential camp where organizers teach the students about time management, communication strategies, finding campus jobs, and more.
