9 Investigates has an update on the vaping problem in Florida schools.

They recommended creating the Florida Schools Safety Portal (FSSP) to give school threat assessment teams access to layers of relevant information on students who may be a threat to themselves of others.

Bowie State University, working with Food Lion, announced Monday it is opening a new on-campus nutrition lounge supplying free and healthy foods.

Only about 28 percent of community colleges have on-campus housing, but these institutions serve a high percentage of housing-insecure students. Partnerships with community organizations can help close that housing gap.

The Kentucky General Assembly has given final approval to a bill requiring that school resource officers carry a gun.  The bill was delivered to Governor Andy Beshear February 10.  He has not publicly indicated if he will sign it into law. 

The U.S. Dept. of Education announced the Federal School Safety Clearinghouse website was launched on Feb. 10: www.SchoolSafety.gov. This website is a one-stop-shop of resources for K-12 schools, administrators, educators, parents, and law enforcement to use to prepare for and address various threats related to safety, security and support in schools.

Texas’ most vulnerable students are unequally punished for disruptive, unruly behavior. Punitive disciplinary policies often lead to pushing students with disabilities and students of color out of the classroom, limiting their ability to succeed academically. 

Approaching the close of a 17-year tenure as Oregon State University’s president, Edward J. Ray called Tuesday on the state of Oregon, the federal government and Oregonians to help address college students’ mental health and basic needs and reduce the tuition burden students and their families pay for college.
