Colorado’s top school-safety agency has launched a plan designed to help schools prepare for and respond to large-scale emergencies, particularly shooting threats.

Following a shooting at East High School in Denver, CO, community leaders offer solutions to keep students safe and protect emotional wellness by increasing mental health supports.   

Hundreds of teachers and students gathered at the Colorado State Capitol to express their concerns about gun safety, to focus on mental health, and to call for state legislators to prioritize gun violence prevention bills. 

Experts said younger and younger children are joining gangs and point to violent crime undertaken by kids under 14. They added that the ever-evolving street gang scene in Denver, and surrounding cities, compel communities to also change their tactics.

The death of a 13-year-old student who apparently overdosed on fentanyl at his Connecticut school has drawn renewed pleas for schools to stock the opioid antidote naloxone, as well as for training of both staffers and children on how to recognize and respond to overdoses.

School safety experts and law enforcement officials are working together to make Connecticut schools safer by highlighting security and understanding how mass shootings across the country impact local students. 

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — As a parent, when you send your children to school, you want them to be safe. One Twin Falls father learned, however, that not only was his daughter attacked on campus but there was video evidence of the altercation.

One evening in mid-October, Leslie Montgomery said her daughter received a barrage of emails to her school email account. Montgomery said her daughter— a seventh grader at the Christian private school Greenleaf Friends Academy — had been the subject of bullying by fellow students since enrolling in the school last year.
